Causes of impotence

In answering this, there is rarely one definitive cause of male impotence. In fact quite often there are a number of causes that when added together create a wholly more complex issue. However, as an introduction to this section we have decided to split out the causes into two distinct areas:

1.  The Physical Causes of Impotence?
2.  The Psychological Causes

The Physical Causes:

In effect, a problem with part of the reproductive system that is needed to get or maintain an erection. Much of this is treatable and the male potency can be restored having had treatment(s). There are a number of key physical problems that are linked directly to male impotence, however we will cover the most common in no particular order:

  1. diabetes
  2. hardening of arteries (leading to high blood pressure, angina or poor circulation)
  3. kidney disorders
  4. multiple sclerosis or other neurological diseases
  5. side effects of medication
  6. heavy smoking
  7. alcoholism
  8. pelvic or cancer surgery

The Psychological Causes

Much of the time, problems in the mind can prevent arousal and this in turn can become a cause of more anxiety. Many people look to qualified therapists or specialist counsellors who treat sexual problems as a way to diagnose and pinpoint problems so they can be worked through.

  1. depression
  2. stress & anxiety from work or home
  3. performance anxiety
  4. relationship problems
  5. sexual boredom

In covering all of these topics, hopefully the site will help you to understand more about yourself and potential problems that could be causing your impotence.

'I had tried talking to my Doctor previously but always found an excuse not to discuss ED. The online consultation is faceless and made me realise which treatment was suitable for me - thanks to the Doctors.'
